The horse can lose up to 40-50 L of sweat depending on the distance, the race, the speed, the environment, the humidity but also the terrain. Sweat is a major source of water and electrolyte loss during exercise and is the cause oforigine electrolyte disorders involved in the exhaustion syndrome of the horse.
Sweat is mainly composed of water, chlorine, sodium, potassium, calcium and magnesium.
