Glucosamine is a carbohydrate whose main role is to participate in the synthesis of glycosaminoglycans (GAGs), key elements in the structure of cartilage. It also facilitates the fixation of sulfur in cartilage.
Chondroitin is an essential component of cartilage and is naturally produced by the body. It is also present in the bones, skin, cornea and artery membrane. It contributes to the formation and maintenance of cartilage tissue. The role of this tissue is to ensure the retention of water in the cartilage and its elasticity. Many studies have shown the effectiveness of glucosamine and chondroitin supplementation on horse cartilage. In particular, it has been proven that glucosamine prevents the degradation of cartilage, and that the combination of glucosamine and chondroitin sulfate prevents the degradation of cartilage.
