Description
The Pelham was designed to be used with two reins, one attached to the top ring (snaffle) and the other attached to the bottom ring (curb), which is used when extra leverage is needed. It can also be used with rounding's attached to a single rein, so that the mouthpiece and bridle come into action at the same time.
The double-jointed Pelham with copper pad has a softer action in the mouth thanautres Pelham because it distributes the pressure evenly over the tongue and bars of the mouth while reducing the nutcracker action of a single-jointed bit. The copper warms the horse and encourages salivation and acceptance of the bit. Double-jointed bits can affect the way the bridle comes into action and reduce directness by putting more pressure on the bars of the mouth.
The small ring above the bridle is used for a lip strap which is not essential but is okay for demonstrations and helps keep the curb chain flat. The Pelham is ideal for stronger horses that can benefit from the activation of the bridle rein that puts pressure on the mouth, chin and muzzle bars to help promote correct head carriage.

Care instructions
To promote good hygiene and protect the longevity of your horse bit, we recommend the following care regimen after each use.
1. Rinse your bit after each use under a faucet to remove any saliva or debris on the surface.
2. Use a sponge or soft cloth to wipe off any excess debris on the bit, paying particular attention to the joints and hinges.
3. Allow to dry naturally.
