Our cones are harvested from black alders (Alnus glutinosa). This product of nature is harvested exclusively in places where nature is still intact and has been preserved from the ravages of man. What makes alder cones so special? Alder cones are excellent sources of humins and valuable tannins. Humins promote plant growth in the aquarium (by releasing nitrogen, phosphorus and sulfur into the water); the pH level drops slightly and the water takes on a natural, yet limpid hue - as in the environments favored in their natural state by many of our aquarium inhabitants.
